NEA ‘Big Read’ opening ceremony at AMP
Pacific Historic Parks was awarded the “Big Read” grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). This community reading program will center on the book, When the Emperor was Divine by Julie Otsuka.
To kick off the month of activities, the community is invited to American Memorial Park on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, from 2pm to 6pm. Join us for the NEA “Big Read” opening ceremony at the American Memorial Park Visitor Center Theater at 2 pm. The ceremony will feature Author Julie Otsuka as the keynote speaker. Following the ceremony, the community is invited to enjoy a variety of cultural performances and activities. There will be free prizes, raffles, and fun for participants of all ages.
The CNMI is one of 79 communities nationwide participating in the NEA Big Read in 2019. From February to March special programs will be offered at American Memorial Park, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, CNMI Public School System schools, and the Borja Memorial Library at the Northern Marianas College.
A national initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, the NEA Big Read broadens our understanding of our world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. The NEA Big Read in the CNMI is presented in partnership with the National Park Service, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, Northern Marianas Humanities Council, CNMI Public School System, Northern Marianas College Borja Memorial Library, Carolinian Affairs Office and Historic Preservation Office.
