SBA Open 8-Ball League sign-up starts

Registration for the 2019 Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball League is now open, as competition is scheduled to start on Feb. 26
The league will feature participants of all skill levels, from novice players to seasoned veterans. Registrations and inquiries can be made in person at the Pacific Amusement Inc. office located next to Brabu Pharmacy and Wellness Centre in Gualo Rai. Players can also register online at pacificamusement.com.
“I expect more teams than last season because there are former players who will be returning to play,” league secretary Warlee Ellama said. “The lineup will be completed by the end of the month. I’m looking forward to seeing more teams and players joining this season.”
Since 2017, the SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball League has been held annually with competition running for six months. From 2005 to 2016, the league was broken up into separate and relatively shorter biannual seasons, before league officials and players opted to have one, but extended season per year.
Games will take place every Tuesday and Thursday and will be played at the following venues: 9 Eleven Restobar in San Jose, Amari’s Tavern in Susupe, Brannon’s Grill in Gualo Rai, Sands Bar in Garapan, and VFW Post 3457 in Garapan, and FF Bar.
Ellama, who plays a key role in organizing the competition, is also a participant in league.
“If I play on game night, they don’t treat me as an organizer, but as an opponent,” Warlee said. “I just love to play the game, win or lose.”
