Members of the Guam and Rota community donated over $6,000 to the CNMI Public School System through a school supply drive.
The Rota Department of Public Safety and the Guam Retired Firefighter Association both made donations of $3,000 to the CNMI Fire and Emergency Medical Services Association’s School Supply Drive.
According to Derek Gersonde, CNMI Fire and Emergency Medical Services Association vice president, the money was converted into gift certificates redeemable at the National Office Supply and were given to PSS to decide how to disperse them.
“We got a donation from the Department of Public Safety Rota of over $3,000 as well as donation from the Guam firefighters over $3,000 and we converted those into gift certificates that we will be giving to PSS to distribute to the students,” he said.
The gift certificates were handed to members of the PSS board last Wednesday at the Kagman shelter.
The association also teamed up with the Lady Diann Torres Foundation to donate over 30 bags of school supplies to the Kagman shelter students.
Gersonde said that the partnership between the association and the foundation has proven to be successful before that’s why they decided to band together again to help the children who remain at the shelter three months post Yutu.
“The more the merrier. She’s been doing great work. This is not the first time we partnered with her. We did the Ayuda Luta as well,” he said.
