CNMI Attorney General Edward Manibusan booked the final ticket for the 2018 Saipan Golfers Association Ace of Aces Tournament after ruling the group’s last monthly event.
Manibusan shot a net 68 for a one-stroke win over Nick Sablan during the SGA December Ace of the Month held last Dec. 9 at the Kingfisher Golf Links. The 6-handicapper fired a 38 on the front nines and had an even 36 on the back for a gross 74. Sablan, also a 6-handicapper, had a better score in the first nine holes with his 1-over 37, but failed to keep the lead when he carded a 2-over par 38 in the last nine for a gross 75 and net 69. Joe H. Aldan rounded out the Top 3 in last month’s competition after registering a net 72. The third finisher had a 13 handicap and posted a 42 and 43 on the front and back nines, respectively, for a gross 85.
With Manibusan taking the December Ace, he now joins Aldan (January), Joe I. Sablan (February), Larry I. Deleon Guerrero (March), Alex Tudela (April), Rick Kautz (May), Das Krishnan (June), John “Nonni” Cruz (July), Larry A. Deleon Guerrero (August), Steve Balakrishna (September), Tony Deleon Guerrero (October), and Frank Castro (November) in the battle for the season-ending SGA Ace of the Aces award.
The coveted trophy will be contested this weekend with a two-round tournament at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort. The opener this Saturday will be played on the east course of the Kagman facility, while the qualifiers will move to the west on Sunday for the second and last round.
Meanwhile, besides his runner-up finish in the December Ace, Nick Sablan also earned closest to the pin honors on hole No. 6 and 15. Other closest to the pin winners were Aldan on No. 12 and Demapan on No. 12, while the former also had the longest drives on No. 7 and 18.
