14-year Red Cross employee bids farewell

A long-serving employee of the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter last week said her final goodbyes to the office along Airport Road for her last day with the charity and disaster response organization.
Mary Ann Taman, a 14-year employee at the local chapter of the Red Cross, bid her final goodbye to executive director John Hirsh as she is set to move to Oregon.
“It was a very hard decision [to leave] but at the end of the day, we have to prioritize our [family],” she said. Taman is leaving Saipan with her husband to follow her son, Kenneth, in Oregon. Kenneth left for the Beaver State in the summer of 2018, Taman noted.
“The American Red Cross-NMI Chapter is an amazing organization. I didn’t know what I was getting into when I first applied, but once you are a part of [the organization] you get that family dynamic—like you belong to an amazing group of different people,” she said.
“I just love life here…. When you help someone, the reward is you get to help somebody,” she added.
Hirsh said in an interview that one of his two staff leaving affects the organization even more.
“[Taman] has been working with the me personally for about 15 years. She is really a dedicated Red Cross member of our team and we just couldn’t do without her. She is organized and have provided amazing contributions to the American Red Cross over the last 15 years,” Hirsh said.
“We are going to lose her, and she would [be leaving] very big shoes to fill,” he continued.
“We are sad [to see her leave] but, on the other hand, excited for her,” he said.
