Northern Marianas Housing Corp. is currently in the process of purchasing modular homes to address the shortage of housing as a result of Super Typhoon Yutu.

During an interview with NMHC office manager/procurement officer Jacob Muna, he said that in light of long-term recovery following Super Typhoon Yutu, NMHC anticipates the purchase of modular homes that will serve as transitional homes for those who completely lost their homes to Yutu.

“Right now we’re still looking at modular homes and also debris removal. Those two are the two projects that we’re anticipating to fulfill…to address the shortage of housing…The modular homes will be the transitional homes…once we purchase that it should be ready,” he said.

Muna said that NMHC is still awaiting approval to purchase the modular homes.

“Right now, we’re just focused on the purchase, its pending approval…. it’s geared toward those affected by the typhoon, basically those who lost their homes completely,” he said.

NMHC will also join forces with the Saipan, Tinian, and Rota municipalities to rid the islands of typhoon debris.

“We’re going to be helping mayor’s offices of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota with debris removal…pending approval,” he said.

Muna said that funding for their typhoon recovery projects are available, their projects are just pending approval.

Muna said that there have been no completed projects in the last year under their grant programs.

“Right now our anticipated projects are Kagman Community Center, Koblerville Youth Center, and of course the typhoon recovery,” he said.
