Agape Christian School bagged its first win of the season after sweeping Saipan International School 2, while Grace Christian Academy and SIS 1 went the distance against their respective foes in the girls division of the 2018-2019 Commonwealth Coalition of Private Schools Association High School Volleyball League last Friday.

Agape hosted SIS 2 at its court in Gualo Rai and got the victory after two tightly contested sets, 25-23, 25-22. Over at the Mt. Carmel School’s grass field in Chalan Kanoa, MCS JV put up a fight over the Lady Eagles, but the latter still came out on top, 25-8, 24-26, 15-7.

At the SIS court in As Lito, SIS 1 also needed three sets to thwart MCS’s varsity squad, 25-17, 22-25, 17-19. One more match was played in As Lito with the Geckos beating the MCS Knights, 25-16, 25-20, in their boys division match. With the win, the Geckos improved their record to 2-0, MCS has yet to secure a victory after five games in the regular season.

Meanwhile, league organizers will push through with the final set of games under the original schedule for the regular season this Wednesday, while they will be coordinating with the participating schools for the make-up games that may be extended to early next week.

“We are ironing out the schedule of some make-up games and the standings,” CCOPSA Sports Committee chair John Blanco said. “Most likely we will finalize the playoff dates and times by Monday or Tuesday (Jan. 21 or 22) based on the submission of score cards and records by the respective schools.”

With the season nearly entering the playoff phase, teams are gearing up and hoping to finish strong.

“For our team, I think we need to put the work and effort to become stronger and closer,” MCS captain Eric Kiser said.

Lady Eagles captain Jasmine Phan echoed Kiser’s sentiments: “With this year being my last in CCOPSA, I would like for our team chemistry to be stronger, as this is the final push for the season.”
