CUC back providing 24-hour water supply on Saipan
Commonwealth Utilities Corp. executive director Gary P. Camacho said they are now back providing 24-hour water supply on Saipan.
“Every customer should be receiving water to some extent,” said Camacho in an interview last Wednesday.
He said if the pipes of their customers is broken or damaged then of course they would not get water supply.
“We have enough water supply. We should be supplying water to everybody,” the executive director pointed out.
Camacho said every place should be getting 24-hour water supply for the most part except the Chalan Galaide area as of Wednesday morning.
He said the Chalan Galaide has had a problem after Super Typhoon Yutu so they had to address the repair of the booster valve in that area.
In the middle of the interview Wednesday afternoon, Camacho received information from his staff that the check valve was already installed.
“Chalan Galaide was the only area although they were getting water it was not 24 hours. Today (Wednesday), should start allowing them 24 hours [of water supply],” he said.
Camacho said some spots on the island have issues with water pressure, high or low, but that they are making those adjustments now that they put the system back on to the island’s power grid.
He said they still have a number of water wells that are under Federal Emergency Management Agency and that they are working with FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps to try to get those areas on island power.
Camacho disclosed that Isley Field water wells are on island power.
With respect to some wells in Obyan, he said they are doing everything and that as once the materials arrived they will energize those water wells.
Camacho said on Tinian, the water supply is 100 percent.
