Thanks to a donation by its partner, Pacific Historic Parks, the visitor center and bookstore at the American Memorial Park will return to daily operations, but remain on the current schedule of 9:30am to 4pm.

At the same time, park roads, walking paths, memorials, and tennis courts at the AMP will remain accessible to visitors, but emergency services will be limited.

“We are pleased to be able to open the visitor center every day, although most of our other services are extremely limited,” said AMP supt. Barbara Alberti. “I want to thank our island community for their patience, as we are unable to maintain our park sites to our usual standards.

“Most importantly, we thank everyone enjoying the beach, pavilion, tennis courts, and ballfields for taking their trash home with them after using the park. We hope everyone will show respect for our island and its beautiful environment. Remember, ‘Pack It In, Pack It Out’ means take home everything you bring in to the park and Leave no Trace!”

These adjusted dates and times are subject to change throughout the duration of the federal government shutdown. National Park Service social media and websites are not being monitored or updated and may not reflect current conditions.

Despite the shutdown of the federal government due to the lapse of appropriations, national parks will remain as accessible as possible while still following all applicable laws and procedures. For updates on the shutdown, visit www.doi.gov/shutdown. (NPS)
