Humanities awards next week
The Northern Marianas Humanities Council will be hosting the 21st Governor’s Humanities Awards at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Giovanni’s Restaurant on Thursday, Jan. 24, starting at 11am. (PR)

4.7-magnitude quake in Guam yesterday
At 9:04am yesterday, a report of a 4.7 magnitude earthquake occurred 165 kilometers southwest of Merizo, Guam. There were no reports of personnel injuries or damage to infrastructure and no tsunami warnings or advisories were issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Kagman schools to have PTSA meeting
This is to inform all parents, guardians, and the community that the Kagman cluster of schools will be having a Parents Teachers Students Association meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at 5:30pm at the Chacha Ocean View Middle School cafeteria. We are encouraging all parents and guardians to attend this meeting.

Volunteers sought for Head Start Council
The Head Start/Early Head Start Program is seeking volunteers from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota to serve as community representatives for the Head Start Policy Council.

The requirements include community representatives who are familiar with resources and services for low-income children and families; cannot be an employee or immediate relative of an employee for the CNMI Public School System; and may not have already served five terms on the council.

The deadline is Jan. 25, 2019. Interested community members should email a brief letter of interest and resume to hsehs@cnmipss.org. The election of community representatives will be held during the January meeting of the Head Start Policy Council. Great Stories Club continues at JKPL
The Great Stories Club at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is restarting after Super Typhoon Yutu. The next meeting will take place on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.

Unlike previous book club sessions, effective in January, the Great Stories Club will meet once per month, after which meeting the participants will be able to keep the book. Food will be provided, and participants will receive a prize. (PR)

UOG programs accredited 7 more years
The School of Business & Public Administration at the University of Guam has been granted reaffirmation of accreditation for its Bachelor of Business Administration and Professional Master of Business Administration programs for another seven years, the maximum number of years possible. This continues a history of accreditation for the school dating back to 1997. The SBPA’s business program is also the only accredited four-year program in Micronesia.

The notification came from the International Accreditation Council for Business Education—an accrediting body that is nationally recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, which is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education—following its Board of Commissioners meeting in early December.

“This accreditation means continued assurance for our current and prospective business students that their education here at UOG rivals stateside and international business schools,” said SBPA dean Annette T. Santos.

The accreditation involved a comprehensive peer-review process, a rigorous self-evaluation, and demonstrating compliance with accreditation principles in the areas of curriculum, faculty, international business education, and educational innovation, among others. (UOG)
