The Bank of Hawaii presented a donation of $10,000 to Northern Marianas College to support the college’s programs relating to workforce development and to help with the institution’s recovery from Super Typhoon Yutu.

NMC sustained millions of dollars’ worth of damage from Super Typhoon Yutu. The storm’s strong winds and rain ripped roofs off buildings, devasted classrooms, destroyed hundreds of computers and lab equipment, and displaced many staff members from their offices.

“Bank of Hawaii’s donation goes a long way in helping NMC recover from the Super Typhoon Yutu,” said Frankie Eliptico, NMC Interim President. “We are deeply appreciative of the Bank of Hawaii and the Bank of Hawaii Foundation for their contribution and help.”

The college is currently holding classes at Saipan Southern High School. In February, college classes will resume at NMC’s As Terlaje campus when the temporary classroom structures made available by FEMA are fully set up.

Bank of Hawaii had also donated over $30,000 in the last few years to help support the College’s business and workforce development programs.

“For more than 35 years, Northern Marianas College has been graduating highly skilled and knowledgeable students, some of whom have become employees of the Bank of Hawaii,” said Rose Sumor, Bank of Hawaii vice president and branch manager- Gualo Rai branch. “We want to continue supporting the college as they recover from Super Typhoon Yutu to ensure they continue to help train and educate the CNMI’s students.”

The presentation of the donation was made at the bank’s Gualo Rai branch. The check was presented by Rose Sumor, BOH branch manager along with Joseph P. Fujihira, officer & assistant branch manager and Joanne H. Aldan, officer & assistant branch manager. The check was received by NMC BOR chair Charles Cepeda, interim president Frankie Eliptico, along with students and staff of NMC. (NMC)
