The new year 2019 is here moving quickly past the old
around the world people give and get happy greetings
of the year gone by memories stories are now being told
a year of hopeful progress in Congressional meetings
What about those new year resolutions being made
promises to self and others of all kinds of change
many forgotten quickly others as days and weeks fade
a few reasonable ones last, others way out of range
Then there is passage of time as things grow older
hopefully still learning our minds maturing and growing
body growing stronger or now senior citizen card holder
some totally unaware in denial, some just not knowing
The universe and earth continue to fly through space
as the space time continuum keeps increasing the pace.

Were your biggest fears found to be sorely lacking?
Were your personal joys beyond all fervent hope?
Did last years election help those you were backing?
Regardless of fears and joys are you learning to cope?
Have fears of cancer heart and kidney problems gone away?
Are you waiting diagnosis for self family father and mother?
Are the joys of healthy children growing up here to stay?
Any equilibrium between fear and joy? one outweigh the other?
Do you roll with life’s ups and downs in the home of the brave?
Recognize and enjoy helping others to learn to help themself?
Surf independently on top of the respective red and blue waves?
Have you put personal and political differences away on a shelf?
