Micro Games medalists to receive cash incentives

Northern Marianas Sports Association has approved the proposal to award cash incentives to medalists in the 2018 Micronesian Games in Yap.
During their monthly meeting last Thursday at the office of Delegate Gregorio “Kilili” C. Sablan (Ind-MP) in Susupe, NMSA president Michael White announced that he had already signed the check that will be distributed to the medalists at the NMSA Annual Sports Banquet on Feb. 20 at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan. Gold medalists will receive $150, while $100 and $75 will be handed to the silver and bronze winners, respectively. For medalists in team events, the check will be given to their respective sports federations and it is up to the latter how they will award the cash incentives.
Weightlifting will get the most incentives, as it delivered 15 medals, including six golds, for the CNMI. Angel San Nicolas, Antoinette Labausa, Rodrigo Ada, Bonnie Cruz, and Joey Tudela were the members of the CNMI Weightlifting Team.
The Commonwealth’s athletics group is next on the list with its 13 medals (two golds, five silvers, and six bronzes). Zarinae Sapong and Rachel Abrams were the gold medalists for the CNMI Athletes Team.
Swimming will also get cash incentives after taking home one gold, courtesy of Kento Akimaru, and four silver medals, while the Northern Marianas Paddle Sports Federation will be rewarded for its one silver (men’s team) and one bronze (women’s squad). Baseball will get $100 for making it to the finals against Pohnpei and settling for a silver medal.
Meanwhile, NMSA announced that the 2021 Pacific Mini Games Oversight Committee will meet this week to discuss its budget presentation. Once finalized, the report/presentation will be shown to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres for review and consideration.
NMSA is confident that the Torres administration and the CNMI Legislature will back up Saipan’s hosting of the Mini Games two years from now.
