Man in car accident takes off
A man whose car collided with another vehicle last Thursday along Middle Road took off on foot before police arrived at the scene.
There were several speculations about what may have motivated the man to flee but police have yet to identify a motive. What is definite is that the man was driving a white pickup truck and it collided with a red Hyundai Accent car.
Department of Public Safety Commissioner Robert Guerrero said that investigation is still ongoing and DPS would release more information once the investigation is complete.
Police reported no fatalities and declined to identify the people involved pending the results of their investigation.
According to the driver of the Hyundai Accent, he was driving along Middle Road from LBC Garapan and had stopped to make a turn to the building across Mobil Middle Road.
While stopped at the inner lane, the driver said another vehicle stopped in front of him to turn into Mobil Middle Road. The driver said he thought it was clear so he took the turn and was surprised when the speeding pickup truck came into view and they collided with each other and fell into the ditch by the road.
The driver said that he went to check on the man driving the pickup and saw an older man. The man told him he was OK so he went to look for his phone in the car.
When police arrived, the driver said he was questioned about the owner of the pickup and he told police that he was there after the accident. Police later discovered that the man had already fled the scene, leaving behind his wallet and license.
A short while later, family members of the man showed up at the scene to talk with police and to retrieve the man’s license and wallet, but police refused to surrender the man’s wallet to his family.
Both cars were towed because the pickup was uninsured and unregistered while the driver of the Hyundai Accent did not have a license and the car was not drivable.
