This past week, Dec. 18-22, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library celebrated its 27th anniversary as well as the holidays with a multitude of fun activities! The library would like to extend a huge thank you to all our sponsors, community partners, and volunteers who made this week possible: the Joeten and Kiyu families, Office of the Governor, the Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, NMC CREES Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, the Lady Diann Torres Foundation, Saipan Community School, biologist Trey Dunn and the Department of Fish and Wildlife, Meena Benavente, Commonwealth Library Council, Department of Public Safety Carolers, Leni Leon, CNMI Motheread/Fatheread Family Literacy Program, and Northern Marianas Humanities Council. Thank you for helping make our celebration possible!
During the week, we had many successful programs, such as a cookie decorating contest, movie days, crafts, a hot chocolate bar, a Christmas ukulele concert, a gift-wrapping station and more! The public was invited to share in the festivities with a birthday celebration—including cake and hot chocolate, as well as the viewing of photographer Leni Leon’s stunning photos of the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yutu (the gallery is currently on display in the library’s main lobby).
The library also hosted a mini-exhibit to promote some of our community partners: the Northern Marianas Humanities Council, NMC CREES Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, the Lady Diann Torres Foundation, and Leni Leon. We appreciate the time and effort to help us celebrate and inform the community about your crucial services!
