5 couples so far for group wedding

The 2nd Annual Group Wedding already has five couples registered, according to a representative of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa.
According to Fr. Jason Granado, the diocese’s chairman for marriage and family life, the annual group wedding already has five registered couples participating as of yesterday.
In 2017, the first year the group wedding became an annual event for the diocese, a group of 13 couples registered for the event.
Granado noted in an email to Saipan Tribune that the main purpose of the event is to encourage couples “to receive the sacrament of matrimony.”
“The diocese realizes that there are many couples today who are either cohabiting or civilly married,” Granado said. “…We want to offer an opportunity for those who wants to get married in church.”
Granado said the common notion that church weddings are expensive is false; he said the ceremony itself is free.
“The reality is that all sacraments are free and, with regards to the wedding, most ‘expenses’ are because of secondary elements such as the party, decorations, dresses etc. We want to help our parishioners understand the importance of the gift of the sacraments,” he told Saipan Tribune.
The Group Wedding would take place on the weekend of the Feast of the Holy Family, which is scheduled to be on Dec. 29, at the Mt. Carmel Cathedral in Susupe at 10am.
Bishop Ryan Jimenez, according to Granado, would be officiating the weddings.
