Two musical groups are ready to create beautiful music tonight while looking to raise some funds for an upcoming music competition.

The Saipan Southern High School’s Manta Ray Band and The Pacific Winds community concert band will team up to present a wind ensemble performance at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe tonight, March 4.

Manta Ray Band musical director William DeWitt said that proceeds from the event will fund the Manta Ray Band’s quest to return to Guam this week for the 10th Annual Tumon Bay Music Festival. The festival is set for March 5-16.

Tickets are $5 for general admission and will be available at the door, or can be pre-purchased from any band member. The Manta Ray Band will be conducted by DeWitt while The Pacific Winds will be co-conducted by Christina A. Nierras.

DeWitt said tonight’s performances will include music from Duke Ellington, John Philip Sousa, the anime film My Neighbor Totoro, Barry Manilow, and much more. Numerous small ensembles from both bands will also perform.

The Manta Ray Band gave a dazzling performance at the 9th Annual Tumon Bay Music Festival where it earned 17 gold medals.
