The Tan Siu Lin Foundation has teamed up with the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa to distribute relief packages to Saipan residents affected by Super Typhoon Yutu.

The packages, which contained food and personal hygiene and cleaning supplies, came from donations from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Guam and Guam Chinese Association that partnered with TanHoldings and the TSL Foundation to reach out to residents recovering from the category 5 typhoon.

The foundation printed 600 coupons, which were then turned over to the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa for distribution. The diocese went to villages on Saipan to visit affected families and handed them the coupons that they have to use to redeem the relief packages at the TSL Sports Complex.

“On behalf of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Jerry Tan for this gift to our people, especially those living in the southern part of Saipan. When I met with Merlie Tolentino of TSL Foundation, Christy Villaflor, and Mr. Tan to talk about this partnership, I felt so blessed and thankful for this generous gesture for our people,” Bishop Ryan Jimenez said.

“I am also thankful to the many volunteers, my brother priests and religious sisters who have been visiting families in the villages. Everyone in our community is doing something and this reminds me of what St. Teresa of Calcutta said, ‘Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love,’” Jimenez added.

Tan acknowledged the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Guam and Guam Chinese Association for their generosity and thanked the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa. He also recognized the volunteers who helped the foundation in packing the relief items.

“We are very grateful to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Guam and Guam Chinese Association for their donation and for trusting us to coordinate the relief distribution efforts in the CNMI. TanHoldings and the TSL Foundation also commend the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa for all the work they do in the community, especially in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yutu,” Tan said.

In related news, the foundation also delivered donation packages to families living in shelters at Kagman Elementary School, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, and Tanapag Middle School.

“This is our home. When we are faced with crisis, when we have this extent of devastation, we all need to step up and help our neighbors and friends,” Tan said. (Saipan Tribune)
