Tropical storm may pass east of Saipan Tuesday morning

Tropical Storm Faxai, which was moving northwest with maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour yesterday afternoon, is expected to pass east of Saipan on Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Guam, as of 1pm yesterday, the center of Tropical Storm Faxai was 95 miles north-northwest of Ulul, 250 miles northwest of Chuuk, 390 miles southeast of Guam, 395 miles southeast of Rota, 430 miles southeast of Tinian, and 430 miles south-southeast of Saipan.

Moving northwest at 6mph, Faxai will gradually turn toward the north and accelerate in forward speed through Tuesday, NWS said.

Faxai is forecast to pass east of Guam tonight (Monday) and Saipan on Tuesday morning.

Faxai is expected to intensify slowly during the next 36 hours with its force winds extend outward from the center up to 70 miles.
