Tough luck for Carol

CNMI junior player Carol Lee was forced to miss her doubles game in the Mundial Juvenil Yucatan HSBC FMT in Mexico last Wednesday.

Lee had to forfeit her opening match in the Grade A tournament after her teammate, Hania Abouelsaad of Egypt, sustained an injury before their game versus American Zoe Hitt and Canadian Alisia Stephanie Manolescu at the Club Campestre de Yucatán Calle in Merida. With the loss, the Commonwealth bet bowed out of competition in her second event in Mexico.

Hitt and Manolescu followed suit, as this time they were not lucky in the second round after falling to No. 1 seed Hurricane Tyra Black and Cori Gauff. The American duo eased its way to a 6-1, 6-0 victory to march into the quarterfinals, which was completed yesterday as seven other teams advanced in the doubles play.

In the singles, Lee faltered on her third round bid after losing to No. 13 seed and world No. 43 Adrienn Nagy of Hungary, 3-6, 3-6.

With Lee done with her pair of competitions in Mexico, she will head to the U.S. this weekend for her last two world ranking events of the season.

The 16-year-old’s first stop will be Bradenton in Florida for the Eddie Herr International Junior Championship. The Eddie Herr event is a Grade 1 competition and will take place at the IMG Academy from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2. Lee will remain in Florida in the first week of December, as she participates in the Orange Bowl that will be played at the Frank Veltri Tennis Center at the Plantation Central Park from Dec. 3 to 9.
