Samaritan’s Purse to bring 300 gensets to Tinian

A second batch of supplies from a disaster relief organization based in North Carolina arrived on Saipan yesterday, noting that it would be transporting 300 generator sets to Tinian.
A Samaritan’s Purse statement over the weekend said the second batch of supplies was brought to Saipan aboard the religious organization’s DC-8 aircraft yesterday afternoon.
The supplies included 780 rolls of heavy-duty plastic tarps to help with temporary shelters for Super Typhoon Yutu survivors.
“The relief organization will also transport 300 generators, which will be distributed to affected families on the island of Tinian, where they are not expected to regain power for several months,” the statement said.
Former CNN, Fox News, and NBC anchor Greta Van Susteren’s social media page suggests that she is on-island and came with the flight, but Samaritan’s Purse team leader Mark Langham has not confirmed it.
The second batch of supplies followed the organization’s initial response to the super typhoon last Nov. 4, where a team of 20 personnel from the organization, including four medical professionals, touched down on Saipan using the same DC-8 cargo aircraft, to provide medical aid along with relief assistance to shelters.
The first batch of supplies included over 30 tons of emergency shelter material, solar lights that doubled as power banks, water filtration units, and other necessities for relief. Estimates of the first batch of supplies, according to a representative of the organization, was enough to accommodate at least 5,000 families.
The lack of supply transportation at first delayed the organization’s Saipan operation, but Langham assured in a conversation last Thursday evening that transportation is starting to ease up.
The organization has been coordinating with several local churches to hand out relief goods.
