Calvo’s Insurance, Calvo Enterprises, and its partners send relief to Saipan
In the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu’s devastating damage, a group of companies and non-profit organizations have come together to offer some relief to the people of the CNMI.
The companies have shipped two APL reefer containers of ice from Pepsi Guam Bottling in Guam to Pacific Trading Co. on Saipan. The ice were distributed to families on Saipan free of charge last Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Youth Center in Koblerville.
The companies that have come together to make this happen are Calvo Enterprises, Calvo’s Insurance Underwriters, American International Group AIG, Tokio Marine Pacific Insurance, American President Lines, Pacific Trucking Company, Bank of Saipan, Pepsi Guam Bottling, and Pacific Trading Co. Non-profit organizations Karidat, MyPros, and Lady Diann Torres Foundation were also involved in the relief effort.
Calvo’s Insurance Underwriters President and chief executive officer Paul A. Calvo and Calvo Enterprises, Inc. president Leonard Calvo, who spearheaded the effort in Guam, stated “Having experienced the devastation of a super typhoon [in] Guam in the past, our hearts went out to the people of the CNMI and right away we wanted to help. At first we were going to donate bottled water until Charles Cepeda from PTC suggested we donate ice instead. We hope to be able to provide two containers of free ice, per week, for the next three weeks.”
Charles Cepeda, general manager of Pacific Trading Co., who is organizing the distribution on Saipan, said, “This is really a group effort between Guam and the CNMI. American President Lines provided the six reefer containers and the shipping services for free. Pacific Trucking Co. provided the trucking of the reefers in Guam for free. Calvo Enterprises, Calvo’s Insurance, AIG, Tokio Marine, and Bank of Saipan, provided the funding. If we are able to successfully ship the six containers as planned, we will distribute over $40,000 of free ice to the people of the CNMI.” (PR)
