So far, so good.
Former CNMI junior player Isabel Heras’ season debut in collegiate ranks has been impressive, as she helped Dixie State University earn a perfect record in the fall season.
The Trailblazers wrapped up the fall competition with an emphatic 8-1 victory over Colorado College last month with Heras contributing a pair of victories for DSU. Heras played in the No. 6 singles and walloped Gaby Jadotte, 6-0, 6-0, to hand Dixie State the sweep in the singles. Then in the doubles, the freshman teamed up with Yolena Carlon and they eked out a 6-4 triumph over Adela Burak and Annie Zlevor.
Dixie State’s other doubles victory was courtesy of Elly Lloyd and Juliana Honczaruk, who topped Elise Chassman and Jadotte, 6-0. Colorado College’s lone victory in the pairing came from Simone Hall and Tess Rubin, who edged Megan Lynch and Kyra Harames, 6-4.
With her 2-0 performance against Colorado College, Heras earned a 3-1 record at the end of the fall season. Her first win in the NCAA Division 2 was against Rebecca Osterberg of Colorado Mesa, 6-0, 6-7, 7-6, and Heras’ three-set victory allowed Dixie State to pull off a 4-3 triumph in its season opener. The Commonwealth player’s lone loss so far this season was in the doubles, as she and Carlon were defeated by Kristen Kirby and Emily Beckley, 8-6.
Heras and her teammates at Dixie State were also scheduled to play against Metro-State Denver and Colorado State University-Pueblo last month, but both matches were canceled. The Trailblazers, who are competing in the Pacific West Conference in NCAA Division II along with 13 other schools in California, Hawaii, and Utah, will return to action in February.
