3 Disaster Recovery Centers open
Effective Friday, No. 9, 2018, three Disaster Recovery Centers have opened on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota to assist residents who suffered damage and property loss due to Super Typhoon Yutu and Typhoon Mangkhut.
A DRC provides residents an opportunity to meet face-to-face with representatives from the Commonwealth, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Small Business Administration to answer questions about temporary housing, home repairs, replacement of damaged personal property, home and business recovery funding, and other disaster-related needs.
On, Saipan, the DRC will be at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, Monday to Sunday, from 8am to 5pm.
On Tinian, the DRC is at the Department of Commerce near the public gym in San Jose, Monday to Sunday, from 9:30am to 3pm, and on Rota, it will be at the Youth Center in downtown Sinapalo, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 6pm, and Saturday, from 10am to 4pm.
FEMA grants and SBA loans may be able to help cover survivors’ uninsured or underinsured damaged property and destroyed essential items. If an applicant is insured, they are strongly encouraged to first file a claim with their insurance company, and then register for disaster assistance with FEMA. If applicants are referred to SBA for a loan application, it is very important that they follow through.
Eligible applicants can register for assistance by calling: (800) 621-3362, or applying online at: disasterassistance.gov. The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech or hearing-impaired.
Survivors who are unable to register for assistance before visiting a DRC are welcome to use the center’s phone banks and computers. (PR)
