CEC to change designated polling places

The Commonwealth Election Commission board will hold an emergency meeting this Monday, Nov. 5, to change the designated polling places for the Nov. 13 general election.

CEC executive director Julita A. Villagomez said they cannot use the previous final designated polling places on Saipan and Tinian as a result of Super Typhoon Yutu’s devastation. Many of the polling places are schools—many of which were damaged by the typhoon.

Villagomez said the board would need to adopt the changes for designated polling sites during the emergency meeting at CEC’s office in Susupe Monday at 1pm.

Rota’s designated polling place has not been changed.

CEC had adopted the final list of designated polling places last Oct. 18.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, the early election for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota will commence.

Early voting for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota was supposed to commence last Oct. 30, while the general election was originally set for Nov. 6.

Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres last Monday postponed the early voting and the general election due to Super Typhoon Yutu’s devastation on Saipan and Rota.

Villagomez said the early voting for Saipan will be at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center, while on Tinian it’s either at the Northern Marianas College-Tinian or at Tinian High School, and on Rota it will be at NMC-Rota.
