3rd Chinese couple killed since 1995
Cases of 11 Chinese homicide victims remain unsolved
The two Chinese farmers whose charred bodies were found among the ruins of their burned house in As Gonno are the third Chinese couple to be the victims of homicide on Saipan since 1995. They are also the 10th and 11th Chinese homicide victims since 1995 that so far remain unsolved.
Police have classified the death of Guo Huang Xu and his wife, Qing Xiu Zheng, as a double homicide. The two reportedly died due to asphyxiation from soot and carbon monoxide inhalation as a result of the fire that razed their house to the ground in As Gonno Sunday night.
As of yesterday, Department of Public Safety police spokesman Travis Hurst said there was nothing new in the investigation.
According to police and Saipan Tribune records, a Chinese couple were murdered in their house in San Vicente in December 2012, while the bodies of a murdered Chinese couple were separately found in Kagman 3 in March 1995.
In the San Vicente case, Jun Li Yang and Jing Liu were found murdered inside their home on Dec. 8, 2012. Jing Liu was president, treasurer, and secretary of a company that was planning to put up a recycling center and engage in apartment rental.
In the Kagman case, Zhao Ming Hou and his wife, Yu Hua Huang, who were then owners of the Ming-Hua Market in Dandan, were found dead in separate areas in Kagman 3 on March 29 and 30, 1995. Hou’s body had multiple gunshot wounds, while Huang died of strangulation. Prior to the discovery of their bodies, their store was burglarized.
The other homicides involving Chinese nationals happened at Laulau Beach in 2006; Obyan Beach in 2001; Beach Road, Garapan in 2001; Beach Road, Chalan Piao in 2000, and Chalan Kanoa Cemetery in 1996.
Bao Ying Chen, a woman, was naked when she was found dead along the shoreline of Laulau Beach on Nov. 23, 2006. She died due to asphyxiation.
Ai Fang Han, a woman, was naked when she was found dead on the shoreline of Obyan Beach on Aug. 9, 2001. She sustained upper body trauma and injuries.
Ye Xiu Zhang, a woman, died after she either jumped out or was thrown out from a moving car on Beach Road in Garapan on June 17, 2001. An autopsy revealed she died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Unidentified men gunned down Kim Fai Tse, a man, inside a barbecue restaurant located along Beach Road, Chalan Piao in August 2000.
Feng Zhu Zheng, a man, was found dead behind the Chalan Kanoa Cemetery in October 1996.
In February 2013, the Department of Public Safety disclosed that its Special Homicide Activity Resolution Partnership team would be working on all unsolved homicide cases. In 2007, DPS revealed that there were 30 unsolved homicide cases in the CNMI since 1975.
