CEC awaits Torres decision on election

The Commonwealth Election Commission is waiting for Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres to make the call whether to postpone or proceed with the Nov. 6 general election due to Super Typhoon Yutu’s massive devastation on Saipan and Tinian.

CEC executive director Julita A. Villagomez said that they would hear from the governor and his decision anytime yesterday.

Many people believe that, considering the catastrophic damage to the two islands, it would be impossible to hold election in less than two weeks.

As to CEC office’s building damage assessment, Villagomez said all the ballot boxes and counting machines are safe in their storage room.

She said their office had only minor water damage.

CEC staff members reported to work yesterday.
