IT&E, the leading telecommunications network in the Marianas, wants to motivate their employees to be physically active. To that end, the company has opened a new fitness center at their Susupe office.
The fitness center features a range of workout equipment such as an Eliptical, a treadmill, a Bowflex, a stationary bike, and free weights. It also has two shower rooms and a bathroom located at the right side of the gym, a small pantry for making fitness shakes or drinks, and TV set.
It is free for employees to use during lunch or when they’re off duty. Employees may use the gym between 7am to 9pm.
IT&E’s general service manager Ed Javier said they installed the gym to encourage employees to be fit.
“We want to push our employees to be healthy,” he said.
Other fitness programs are also available for IT&E employees. They have Zumba three times a week with an instructor and a new paddling program on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
IT&E employees also get a discounted fee every month at Gold’s Gym.
Other programs are still waiting to be implemented. “We hope to expand more,” Javier told Saipan Tribune.
Javier said that IT&E is committed to motivating their employees to pursue a healthier lifestyle and be more physically active.
IT&E is also promoting health and fitness in the community through cell phone apps such as WebMd, which provides health information and decision-support tools; Lose It! for daily calorie budget, tracking food and exercise, and staying motivated to make better choices; First Aid American Red Cross, which gives advice for everyday emergencies; and My Diet Coach II, Calorie Counter, and Healthy Recipes Free, for healthy recipes and eating.
