Docomo Pacific eases past Joeten 2
Docomo Pacific saved the best for last to whip Joeten 2, 76-55, in the third game in the 2018 JP World Corp. Customer Appreciation Basketball League last Sunday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
Up by 15 after three quarters, 62-47, Docomo Pacific finished off Joeten 2 in the fourth with a 24-8 scoring surge. Shane Deleon Guerrero made 7 markers in the final canto and five of his teammates also hit the board in that period to hand Docomo a 21-point winning margin.
Joeten 2 never recovered, as it had only three players finding their mark in the final frame. Ray Agulto had a pair of baskets, while J.P Cruz and Alvin Pua added one apiece.
Its 8 points in the fourth quarter was Joeten 2’s lowest output and it also struggled in the opening quarter, allowing Docomo to take a 20-13 advantage. The quartet of Deleon Guerrero, Tony Diaz, Jason Hayes, and Robert Sanciangco combined for 18 points for Docomo in the first period.
In the second canto, Docomo was then held to 14 points, just 2 points behind Joeten 2, but the former made up for its slowdown in the third period, 28-18, to take a double-digit lead. Docomo then went for the kill in the final canto to notch its second win.
Meanwhile, CUC also gained victory No. 2 after downing Star Water, 102-91.
CUC took early control of the match, leading at 24-8 after the first period to offset Star Water’s 35-point explosion in the fourth and still escape with a double-digit wining margin.
Eugene Manglona scored 10 points in the first quarter to outgun the entire Star Water crew, which was limited to three field goals and a pair of free throws. Manglona and company then had 28 markers each in the second and third periods to keep its safe distance and survive Star Water’s rally in the final frame.
