A typhoon watch is now in effect for Tinian and Saipan. A tropical storm watch remains in effect for Rota.

As of 11pm, Tropical Storm Yutu was seen moving northwest, based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point.

At 10pm, the center of Tropical Storm Yutu was moving northwest at 17 mph. It is expected to maintain this general course for the next few days. On this track, Yutu will likely be approaching the Marianas Wednesday night.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 50 mph.

Yutu is forecast to intensify over the next few days and could become a typhoon on Tuesday.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 140 miles to the northeast and 115 miles elsewhere.

Because of the anticipated threat, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres has maintained Typhoon Condition 3 for the islands of Saipan and Tinian and Tropical Storm Condition 3 for Rota.

Typhoon Condition 3 means that damaging winds of 74 mph or greater are possible within 48 hours;

Tropical Storm Condition 3 means that damaging winds of 39-73 mph are possible within 48 hours. (HSEM)
