4 MVA events through Christmas
Concepcion
Less than two months before Christmas, the Marianas Visitors Authority is sponsoring and co-sponsoring four major events intended to attract tourists, international athletes as well as CNMI residents.
MVA managing director Christopher Concepcion said they have the Ironman 70.3 Saipan this Saturday, Oct. 27, then the 12th Annual Hell of the Marianas Century Cycle slated for Dec. 1.
Ironman 70.3 is an internationally recognized event that features a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run, totaling 70.3 miles. It is not clear if this competition will push through because of bad weather.
Hell of the Marianas Century Cycle participants would experience Micronesia’s most challenging 100K cycling course, highlighted by the natural beauty of the island at its most distinguished attractions. Last year, the event attracted 181 registrants from 11 countries.
After Thanksgiving, Christmas in the Marianas at the Paseo de Marianas in western Garapan will begin with the lighting up of sculptures.
Concepcion said the 17th Annual Christmas in the Marianas will be held at the Paseo de Marianas every Saturday in December.
The event features decorated Christmas trees, a Christmas parade, and a costume/caroling decorations.
The Tinian Cliff Fishing Derby, which has been rescheduled to Nov. 9 to 11, is a sport fishing that attracts more fishermen to the islands.
Meanwhile, the Japanese Society of the Northern Mariana Islands, is set to hold its 33rd Annual Japanese Autumn Festival at the Paseo de Marianas this Saturday.
The event showcases traditional Japanese performances, Japanese delicacies, plus foods and games for tourists and locals to enjoy.
