Training mandatory for poll workers
The Commonwealth Election Commission advises poll supervisors, poll workers, and alternates that failing to attend the poll workers training will cause them to be replaced.
CEC executive director Julita A. Villagomez said all poll supervisors, poll workers, and alternates are required to attend the training so she can certify them prior to being assigned their duties.
The training agenda includes election procedures, ethics act, tasks, and responsibilities.
Under a statute, the “executive director shall employ poll workers and poll supervisors necessary to conduct elections and administer the commission’s other duties and responsibilities.”
Such employees shall be hired from lists of individuals recommended by the recognized political parties—Republican and Democratic—in “such a manner as to ensure a fair representation of all recognized political parties in the total cohort.”
All such employees, the statute says, shall receive training and certification in procedures, ethics, tasks, and responsibilities prior to being assigned any duties.
For Saipan and Northern Islands, the training will be at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe on Oct. 29 at 6pm.
For Tinian and Aguiguan, the training will be at the Tinian-Northern Marianas College room D on Oct. 29 at 5:30pm.
For Rota, the training will be at the Rota-NMC room B2 on Oct. 30 at 6pm.
CEC needs 94 poll workers.
