Miss Marianas to revive Girl Scouts
The reigning Miss Marianas is focused on reviving the Girl Scout program in the CNMI as her community project.
Celine Concepcion Cabrera, the Miss Marianas 2018, said it is high time to revive the Girl Scout program in the CNMI, which has been non-existent for four years now.
As a former Girl Scout herself with an aspiration to become a teacher some day, Cabrera said she wants to instill valuable life and leadership skills that she learned from scouting to young girls in the Commonwealth.
“The NMI Girl Scouts…is a valuable global program that will offer many fun activities and opportunities for our young girls to share ideas, learn from each other, and experience positive growth,” she said.
The program will also teach young girls about science, math, technology, business and economic literacy, and environmental awareness.
The program aims to provide young girls the opportunity to establish long-term friendships while developing their leadership skills and their self-esteem.
According to NMI Girl Scout president Tania David, she is happy to bring the program back to life.
“We are happy to pair up with Miss Marianas and the Stellar Marianas group to help revive our program and provide the necessary support to give our young girls this wonderful opportunity,” she said.
The previous Girl Scout program took a break in 2014 due to the lack of volunteers. Four years later, the CNMI will be able to enroll their daughters 6 to 12 years of age to become an honorary brownie.
Parents and family members are also encouraged to register as volunteers to help with troop activities.
The program will host an open house soon that will be open to community members who are interested in joining the program.
