Labor hosts job fair at Kagman High School
With the hope of discovering a fresh start, better job, or new career path, jobseekers found a variety of opportunities at last Saturday’s Job Fair, organized by the CNMI Department of Labor.
Over 20 employers from the private sector, including Pacific Islands Club and I Love Saipan, answered questions and accepted job applications for immediate openings in a range of fields. DOL hosted the job fair on Oct. 6, 2018, from 9am to 3pm, at the Kagman High School cafeteria.
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres noted that community outreach through job fairs are among the best ways to attract and recruit more of our residents and U.S. workers into the workforce.
“Reaching out to the community and taking care of those who were recently displaced or are looking for work will continue be one of our highest priorities. The opportunities are here, and they’re growing. As a government, we will continue to make sure that everyone has an equal opportunity to create their stories for success in their lives,” said Torres.
Approximately 75 individuals attended the event, which included representatives from the CNMI Scholarship Office, Northern Marianas College, and the CNMI Public School System.
Labor Secretary Vicky Benavente emphasized the importance of a community-centered effort to help residents get a job. For her and the Department of Labor, it is about partnerships for progress.
“I want to emphasize the importance of the continued partnership with the businesses who participate in the DOL Job Fairs. These relationships are a way of moving everyone in our community forward so that our economy is filled with skilled individuals with diverse talents. I also want to express appreciation for support from the Kagman community for supporting our efforts,” Benavente added.
“Job recruitment or hiring events are an essential part of our efforts to connect the CNMI’s workers with employers looking to hire,” said director of Enforcement Gil San Nicolas. “By hosting this job fair, the CNMI DOL is helping to strengthen our economy and support gainful employment for individuals.”
“The job fair is an opportunity for job seekers to network with employers seeking qualified applicants to fill their open positions. It brings together local employers and our community’s workforce to help businesses expand and positively impact the economy of the CNMI,” said Division of Employment Services director Eugene Tebuteb.
“It’s always an investment when we have the opportunity to promote our workforce and our special programs that we have intact to assist students and graduates alike. We’d like to thank the CNMI DOL for giving us an opportunity to join other agencies and groups at their job fair,” said CNMI Scholarship administrator Rose S. Pangelinan.
Jobseekers are encouraged to contact DES for assistance with all aspects of the job search process.
“The DES provides free services, resources, and tools to assist job seekers,” added Labor Certification supervisor James Ulloa. “Services are available onsite to help job seekers in filling out employment applications, resume writing and development, and interview preparation techniques.”
