Tinian senatorial candidate pleads not guilty to DUI

Tinian senatorial candidate Eric Henry Cruz San Nicolas pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol.

San Nicolas, who was arrested in July 28, pleaded not guilty during his arraignment hearing on Aug. 30, 2018 that was filed at the Superior Court on Sept. 7, 2018.

San Nicolas is adamant about keeping his promise to fight the citation in court because he claims the DUI allegations against him are false.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho ordered San Nicolas to return to court on Oct. 18, 2018, for a status conference where he will be represented by assistant public defender Jean Nogues.

San Nicolas, a former Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board member, is an independent candidate for a Tinian Senate seat.

San Nicolas is among four other Tinian independent candidates who submitted petitions for nomination for Senate and House of Representatives seats.

In a previous article, Department of Public Safety spokesperson Jacqueline Rae stated that a woman called the department back in July 28 about a theft incident involving San Nicolas but when officers arrived at the scene, San Nicolas was not there.

Rae said San Nicolas returned a short time later and returned the items to the woman.

Rae said police officers, however, cited San Nicolas with DUI at that time.

Rae said the incident happened in Koblerville at 1:23am.
