Lions aid in Rota recovery
Lions Club International put its resources together to provide relief goods for those still recovering from Typhoon Mangkhut that devastated Rota three weeks ago.
According to a report from the Lions Club International (LCI) Region 2 District 204, the organization was able to donate relief items such as bottled water, rice, assorted clothing, noodles, tissue paper, rubbing alcohol, body soaps, canned goods, cereals, toothbrushes, bed sheets, and blankets.
The club sent the relief goods through the Ayuda Luta Rota relief containers that arrived on Rota last week.
According to Region 2 assistant public relations officer Mario Mayuga, the club is hoping that their donations can further assist the needs on Rota.
“It feels good seeing the community helping each other and working together,” he said.
Region 2 chair Annamae Adaza said it is important to the club to be of help in any way they can.
LCI Region 2 District 204 is composed of six clubs on Saipan: Saipan Fil-Am, Saipan Unity, Saipan Marianas, Saipan Alliance, Saipan Natibu, and Saipan Centennial Lions Club.
The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is also collecting relief donations that will be sent to Rota.
The CNMI Fire and EMS Association also raised over $8,000 to aid those who are still recovering from Typhoon Mangkhut.
The island of Rota is now transitioning into long-term recovery that includes the rebuilding homes and structures damaged by the typhoon.
