DPS to keep Shepard as its spokesperson
The Department of Public Safety has renewed the job contract of public information officer Jacqueline Rae Shepard for another year.
Shepard has been the public information officer of DPS since December 2017 and will end her contract on Sept. 28.
Although Shepard has been renewed for another year, she will take a leave of absence for two months to attend to family matters before starting her new contract in December 2018.
“It kind of worked out pretty well. My mom will be 80 years old on Oct. 10 and she lives alone…so I am going home to see what is going on with her. The goal is to settle all her affairs there with her and we will come back here on December 1st,” she said.
Shepard said that during her first term with DPS, she was able to learn a lot. “It was important to me that residents have as much information so they can stay as safe as possible and that’s kind of been my role,” she said.
Shepard said she is grateful for the opportunity to stay with DPS because she not only enjoys her job; she also admires the integrity and hospitality of the CNMI police department and has also fallen in love with the island.
Shepard took over the post from Lt. Jason Tarkong, who was doing the job in an acting capacity.
Prior to DPS, Shepard worked as a news anchor for KSPN TV.
Shepard is originally from Aurora, Colorado. She earned her degree in Broadcast Communications from Metropolitan State University in Denver. She then moved to Los Angeles, during which she worked for Torrance City Cable.
