Christina “Tina” Sablan, who is running as an independent candidate for the House of Representatives Precinct 2, has announced that the community forum she is hosting, “Our Sense of Place,” will now be held on Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Joeten Daidai Social Hall in Chalan Kanoa, next to Mt. Carmel Cathedral, starting at 5:30pm. The forum was rescheduled from its original date in September due to typhoon conditions that week.

“Our goal,” Sablan said, “is to come up with a plan and set of priorities to guide our efforts as a community to revitalize the villages of Precinct 2, and especially Chalan Kanoa and Susupe.”

Sablan holds a master’s degree in urban and regional planning.

Sablan is partnering with mapping expert Robbie Greene to present maps of Precinct 2 and facilitate a discussion about the places that are important to people, and why.

Forum participants will be asked to identify the social, cultural, historic, environmental, and economic assets of the precinct, and places in need of cleanup, repair, or protection. This feedback will be used to create a tangible, public product that can help community members visualize their concerns and valued spaces, and make decisions.

Precinct 2 includes the villages of Chalan Kanoa, Susupe, Fina Sisu, As Lito, and As Perdido.

“The forum is free to attend and open to everyone—whether you live, work, operate a business, have family members or roots in Precinct 2, or simply have ideas to share about how we can make Precinct 2 a healthier, safer, more beautiful place,” Sablan said. “All are welcome.”
