Tropical Storm Condition 3 maintained

Tropical Depression 28W continues moving north-northwest. A tropical storm watch remains in effect for Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.

 

That means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 12 to 24 hours, including damaging winds of 39 mph or more.

 

Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center’s State Warning Point, Tropical Depression 28W was located about 55 miles west-northwest of Rota, about 75 miles north-northwest of Guam, about 85 miles west-southwest of Tinian, and about 95 miles west-southwest of Saipan, with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph.

 

At 1pm today, the center of Tropical Depression 28W was seen moving north-northwest at 10 mph. It is expected to make a slight turn toward the west-northwest with a decrease in forward speed over the next 24 hours.

 

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 35 mph. The tropical depression is forecast to intensify through tonight possibly becoming a tropical storm.

 

Because of the anticipated threat of Tropical Depression 28W, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres has maintained Tropical Storm Condition 3 for the islands of Rota, Tinian, and Saipan as of 11am this morning.

The CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point will be monitoring the movement of Tropical Depression 28W and will be issuing out bulletins as they become available.
