Commonwealth Election Commission chair pro tem Jesus I. Sablan was re-appointed yesterday as CEC commissioner representing Saipan and the Northern Islands.

CEC administrative officer Kayla Igitol confirmed with Saipan Tribune that Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’ reappointment letter for Sablan was hand-delivered yesterday to their office.

Igitol said Sablan accepted the re-appointment and stated that he will turn in his papers to the Governor’s Office for processing.

Sablan’s re-appointment needs Senate’s confirmation.

Sablan’s third four-year term as commissioner will expire on Oct. 27, less than two weeks before the Nov. 6 general election.

Sablan was first appointed as CEC commissioner in 2007. He has been serving as chairman pro tem because CEC has no chairperson following the expiration of the term of former chair Frances M. Sablan in August 2017.
