Early voting for NI residents starts Saturday
The Commonwealth Election Commission is in the process of chartering a ship for a trip to the Northern Islands as early voting for those residing there will start this Saturday.
CEC administrative officer Kayla Igitol told Saipan Tribune yesterday that based on their last information, there are 16 people on Pagan, four on Alamagan, and six on Agrihan.
Igitol said she will talk with Northern Islands Mayor Northern Islands Mayor Vicente B. Santos today, Thursday, to get information as to how many of those 26 are voters for the islands.
As of Sept. 14, there are 175 total Northern Islands’ voters, including those who are currently staying there, Igitol said.
She said the ballots are expected to arrive on Saipan tomorrow, Friday.
The administrative officer said although the early voting for those residing on the Northern Islands starts this Saturday, CEC has a 45-day window to do it.
That means the CEC does not have to obtain by Saturday the early votes from those residing on the Northern Islands.
The seven-day early voting for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota will commence on Oct. 30.
Igitol said early voting for Northern Islands’ voters who are residing on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota will also take place in that period.
