Duenas pleads guilty, gets 6 months in prison
A man who was charged with assault and battery and disturbing the peace pleaded guilty to one of the charges, cutting his sentence short by one year.
Joey Duenas, 38, pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace during an altercation. Duenas was also charged with assault and battery that he did not plead guilty to.
If Duenas had not pleaded guilty and had gone to trial and had been convicted of the charges against him, he could have faced a maximum sentence of one year and six months.
After the plea agreement, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho sentenced Duenas to a maximum of six months in prison without the possibility of parole, probation, early release, work release, or weekend release.
Duenas was also given credit for the 103 days he had already served in prison.
Duenas’ bench trial that was set for Sept. 24, 2018, was also waived by the court.
On May 26, 2018, Duenas was arrested after an altercation between him and another individual.
Duenas was represented by his court-appointed counsel, Charles P. Reyes Jr., and the CNMI was represented by assistant attorney general Jonathan Robert Glass Jr.
