Man who threw machete at cop pleads guilty
The 22-year-old man accused of burglarizing a house in Chinatown and throwing a machete at a police officer a few months ago has pleaded guilty to all charges.
During a change of plea agreement last Tuesday, 22-year-old Kition Emor pleaded guilty to three charges: assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of disturbing the peace.
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo sentenced Emor to 150 days in prison but waived the 117 days he had already served. Emor will be released from the Department of Corrections on Oct. 7, 2018.
Aside from serving time in prison, Emor will also pay Robert Torres $527 in restitution for the damage done to his home.
Assistant attorney general Robert “Charlie” Lee appeared for the government. Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig served as counsel for Emor.
According to police, an officer was dispatched last May 10 at 12:59am to Freedom Drive in Chinatown due to a reported disturbance.
When the officer arrived at a house, he felt an object fly by him and noticed it was a machete. A man, identified as Emor, was standing on the roof of the house. He was shouting at the officer and challenging him.
Other officers arrived at the scene. Emor tried to run away, but one officer grabbed him. Three other officers assisted in arresting him.
A woman guided the officers to her house, where she showed the windows in the garage, the window by the stairs, and the sliding door outside the back of the house, which Emor allegedly damaged to get inside.
