SHRM CEO to headline NMI chapter meeting

Johnny C. Taylor Jr., president and chief executive officer of the Society for Human Resource Management, will be the keynote speaker of the CNMI SHRM general membership meeting this month.

This will be the first time in two decades that the organization’s national president will visit the CNMI.

This meeting will be held at Pacific Island Club Saipan’s Charley’s Cabaret today, Sept. 5, 2018, beginning at 12pm. It is open to the public.

The presentation includes the PIC lunch buffet at a cost of $20 for SHRM members and $30 for non-members.

Weightlifting Federation meeting on Saturday

The CNMI Weightlifting Federation invites all persons interested in the sport of weightlifting to an open meeting to be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, starting at 10:30am at the NMPASI conference room in Gualo Rai, Saipan. Discussion at the meeting will focus on plans, ideas, and goals for the promotion and participation of CNMI weightlifters in upcoming international weightlifting competitions and the 2021 Micro Games.

CHamoru commission meetings in Sept., Oct.

The Kumisión i Fino’ CHamoru yan i Fina’nå’guen i Historia yan i Lina’la’ i Taotao Tåno’ (Commission on CHamoru Language and the Teaching of the History and Culture of the Indigenous People of Guam) will have its September and October monthly meetings on Thursday, Sept. 13 and 27 and Oct. 11 and 25, from 12:30pm to 3pm at the Department of Parks and Recreation Paseo conference room in Hagåtña. Agenda items include but are not limited to: approval of minutes, reports from the chair, vice chair, secretary and committee chairs, financial matters, orthography revisions, and strategic plans and implementation activities. Work sessions will also be held on Thursdays, Sept. 6 and 20 and Oct. 4 and 18, from 12:30pm to 3pm at the same venue.

SCC monthly meeting today

The monthly meeting of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for today, Sept. 5, 2018, at Kanoa Resort. Guest speakers will be Alex A. Sablan of the Northern Marianas Business Alliance Corp.; Arielle Buyum, executive director of Latte Training Academy; and updates on the Junior Achievement Program Advisory Council.  Lunch will begin at 11:30am and the meeting will follow promptly at 12pm.
