“The loss of liberty in general would soon follow the suppression of the liberty of the press; for it is an essential branch of liberty, so perhaps it is the best preservative of the whole.”
—John Peter Zenger (1697-1746)

John Peter Zenger contributed to the development of the free press in colonial America. His work was on the minds of the framers of our U.S. Constitution. Amendment 1, Bill of Rights, states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
The 5W how is a standard journalist’s list of questions.

Who we are, What we are, and Why, Where is mirth
is Where we are as important as How we are today
haven’t we been changing daily since our birth
What have we been doing When at work, home, or play
Why do we seem to crave or need more and more mirth
What we love changes sometimes more sometimes less
travel broadens minds and outlook all over the earth
When and Why do we go back to learn more about goodness
5W How questions and answers fill many an encyclopedia
at times we discover them on our own sometimes in news
our President ‘guides’ us calling the press “lying media”
‘Fake! Fake!’ he shouts at newspapers his favorite views
to all readers of this sonnet please use the 5 W How
speak up about injustice in the Past, the Future, and Now.

“Sincere and unspiteful laughter is mirth, but where is there any mirth in our time, and do people know how to be mirthful? A man’s mirth is a feature that gives away the whole man, from head to foot. Only a man of the loftiest and happiest development knows how to be mirthful infectiously, that is, irresistibly and good heartedly. I’m not speaking of his mental development, but of his character, of the whole man. If a man has a good laugh, it means he’s a good man.”
—Fyodor Dostoyevsky, (1821-1881)

Hats off to idiots all fools and half
wits, more or less, some of them nit
wits that cause whiners to laugh
and giggle like babies drooling spit
All hail big jerks those jolly old elves
using their loudmouths with every breath
making fantastic fools of themselves
as others laugh themselves to death
salutations to the big showoff
bragging about this, showing off that
most folks just blow them off
continue shooting the breeze, chewing the fat
hope these jokers will be around for a while
always good for a good laugh and a smile.
