SCC monthly meeting on Thursday

The monthly meeting of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for Sept. 5, 2018, at Kanoa Resort.

Guest speakers will be Alex A. Sablan of the Northern Marianas Business Alliance Corp., where he will share some important updates; Arielle Buyum, executive director of Latte Training Academy, who will provide updates on the classes held through the CW program funding that they were included under for the first time in 2018; an updates on the Junior Achievement Program Advisory Council. 

Lunch will begin at 11:30am and the meeting will follow promptly at 12pm. For reservations of six or more,  call (670) 234-7150.

The Chamber office will be closed today, Sept. 3, in observance of Labor Day. (PR)

Military training at Warning Area 517, FDM

The military will conduct training at Warning Area 517 on Sept. 5 and 6, from 3pm to 11pm.

The military will also conduct training at the Island of Farallon de Medinilla during the following dates and times:

– Sept. 4, from 11am to 2pm
– Sept. 5, from 11am to 2pm
– Sept. 9, from 12:01am to 11:55pm

It is recommended that the public, fishermen, and marine tour operators monitor the Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.

W-517 is activated south of latitude 12° 40’ 00″N. Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Banks are open for public use.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla will be in a 12-nautical mile radius of the island. (PR)

Go on a sailing tour aboard Okeanos Marianas

Okeanos Marianas, the CNMI’s 50-foot traditional sailing canoe, will be providing sailing tours within the Saipan lagoon to residents throughout the month of September in celebration of Heritage Month. Tours start at Smiling Cove Marina at 10am and 5pm and feature marine life in and around the Saipan Harbor, as well as talks on traditional navigation and seafaring culture.
