WASHINGTON, D.C.—Guam Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D-Guam) joined congressional leaders of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives last Friday for a national commemoration in honor of U.S. Sen. John McCain, who passed away on Aug. 25, 2018.

McCain laid in state in the U.S. Capitol rotunda, an honor reserved for the nation’s most eminent citizens.

“John McCain was a patriot and an American hero who dedicated his life to our country. While we had our differences on war claims for the people of Guam, I respected his service to our military, his constituents in Arizona, and the nation as a whole,” said Bordallo. “I had an opportunity to meet Sen. McCain during a congressional delegation to Vietnam, and see firsthand where he was held as a prisoner of war. He sacrificed much for our country, and I was grateful to join in honoring his memory today in the U.S. Capitol. I extend my condolences to his wife, Cindy, and the entire McCain family. May he rest in peace.” (PR)
