BREAKING NEWS: 6.6 magnitude quake hits NMI

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 hit the CNMI this morning, Aug. 29, 2018, at around 8:35am.

 

Preliminary data from the U.S. Geological Service showed that the temblor’s epicenter was located 230 kilometers from Garapan, Saipan.

 

There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake, according to an advisory from the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point.

 

It said the earthquake occurred at 8:35am about 87 miles southeast of Farallon de Mendinilla at a depth of 32 miles.

 

“Currently, there are no reports of injuries or damages and no tsunami warnings or advisories were issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center,” it added.
