A waste of taxpayers’ money

An elected AG should know when to say no to governor? It is easier said than done. A sitting governor has millions of dollars at his/her disposal each fiscal year. I assume that more ungraded full-time employee positions will be allocated to the families and friends of the elected attorney general. A person who got elected to be a governor in the CNMI in the past had to have some type of knowledge on how to persuade others to follow his/her lead. Elected attorneys general will not necessarily guarantee that they will conform for the betterment of the whole.

The proposal for a runoff election for the attorney general in the CNMI is at best a waste of taxpayers’ money. The chances of an individual garnering a majority of the votes for the attorney general elected position in a given CNMI general election is zero to none. It translates to more money from our near bankrupt government to fork out thousands, if not hundreds of thousand of dollars each general election. I suppose the individuals who were behind the proposal have no comprehension of how much our people have to endure the hardship that they face in their daily lives in the CNMI. Maybe, because the money that will be allocated to entertain the attorney general runoff election appears to benefit the election workers. Absentee ballots were not received in the past, registered mailed were signed for by the election office and no one has a clue as to who signed for it. Voter registration forms were being returned to sender because no one at the election office picked them up at the post office.

Before proposing a runoff for the CNMI attorney general’s position, please have the decency to be accountable for the absentee ballots you sent out to us and the voter’s registration via the U.S. Postal System Registered Mail sent to the election office, because how many candidates had been shortchanged in the past for the mismanagement at our election office. At the end of the day, it is best to have an elected attorney general in the CNMI, but not at the expense of our people.
