Courts cease operations
All offices of the CNMI Judiciary shut down operations and put scheduled hearings on hold yesterday due to the inclement weather brought by Typhoon Cimaron.
Soon after it was announced that Typhoon Cimaron would hit the Marianas yesterday, the Commonwealth Judiciary Administrative Office announced that all Judiciary offices would be closed until the threat of Typhoon Cimaron has been cleared.
The announcement came after Gov. Ralph DLG Torres declared Saipan and Tinian at 8am to be under Tropical Storm Condition II, shutting down the operation of all non-essential government agencies.
As of yesterday evening, Torres upgraded Saipan and Tinian to Tropical Storm Condition I and that should remain that way through today as Typhoon Cimaron slowly inches away from the Marianas.
All court hearing are expected to resume tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 23.
As of 1pm yesterday, the center of Typhoon Cimaron was s reported to be moving toward the west-northwest at 7 mph and is expected to make a slight turn toward the northwest with an increase in forward speed over the next 24 hours, with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. Typhoon Cimaron is forecasted to intensify through today.
Cimaron or “simaron” in Tagalog refers to something, usually an animal, that is wild, ferocious or savage.
